Workplace skills on the timetable for Stevenston students
22 FebruaryLocal Stevenston pupils have been given an insight into the skills and attitudes needed to find a job in today’s competitive workplace.
As part of its award-winning education programme, Irvine Bay Regeneration Company has teamed up with Scotmid Co-operative, which recently opened a new store in the town’s Grange Business Centre, creating 12 new jobs.
Auchenharvie Academy hosted a visit from Scotmid’s Clare Rajan, Membership & Community Officer, who facilitated a skills workshop with an S2 class. Clare gave the pupils an insight to working with the Co-operative Society, and talked about the broad career opportunities in Scotmid and highlighted the skills essential to build a successful career in the company.
Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company said: “The pupils got the chance to see at first hand the behaviours and attitudes that are required to secure and maintain a job in today's competitive workplace.”
Following the workshop the pupils are working in teams to create a presentation that will be delivered to other classes in Auchenharvie Academy as part of their personal development.
This builds on work already carried out last year, when – as part of the Grange Business Centre development – a group of S1 pupils produced a presentation that covered the history and future impact of the business centre on the town of Stevenston. Four pupils then went on to deliver a presentation at 2 local primaries as well as participating in last year’s Annual Public Meeting.
