Stevenston athlete John called up for GB team

  • Stevenston's John McCafferty has won his first call-up to the GB athletics squad
Young Stevenston athlete John McCafferty has won his first call-up to represent Great Britain, when he was chosen to represent Great Britain in a top international tournament in France.

The 18-year-old athlete travelled to England in January where he set a new Scottish record at the AAA Championships - is opening competition of the year - and his performance earned him his first call up to the British squad.

John will now compete in a two-day heptathlon tournament at U20 level as part of a four-man team in a two-day heptathlon event at Bompass, France against top athletes from across Europe.
